Meeting President Jokowi, UN Secretary General Commended Disaster Management in Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara

 According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia report on October 11th :During a bilateral meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN Secretary-General) Antonio Guterres, President Joko Widodo received praise for the Indonesian Government's management of the earthquake and tsunami disasters in Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara. The meeting took place at Balai Citra Room, The Laguna Resort & Spa Nusa Dua Hotel, Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday (11/10).In her statement after the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the UN Secretary General conveyed profound sorrow for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami disasters in Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara. She also said that Guterres also praised the government's fast response in post-event handling.

"The UN Secretary General said that the Indonesian people are resilient and appreciate the government's fast response so that the situation could be handled in a short time. He said that it is not always easy to act in such emergency situations," Minister Retno said.Regarding the issue related to world peace, which was also discussed among them, the UN Secretary General appreciated Indonesia's position on peace efforts in Palestine. Apart from that, Indonesia is also deemed a vital partner for the United Nations in creating world peace. Indonesia is known as the largest contributor in the deployment of UN peacekeepers.

"Indonesia has the capacity and desire to be active in efforts to create world peace and prosperity. So, the partnership between Indonesia and the United Nations is considered as being extremely excellent by the UN Secretary General," Foreign Minister Retno quoted Guterres.As for Indonesia's diplomacy efforts in handling the problems in Rakhine State, Myanmar, the UN Secretary-General considers that Indonesia is the right country to handle such in appropriate ways so that it can continue to contribute in the midst of difficult situations.

"The UN secretary general said that the way Indonesia approached the issue was considered just right  so that Indonesia could contribute even though the situation was not easy. Progress is still being pushed, but Indonesia is certainly able  to continue contributing  in resolving the situation in Rakhine State," he said.In the bilateral meeting, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister State Secretary Pratikno, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
